I’m not sure if @hotpepper is aware that it’s National Composting Awareness Week, where people are made aware of composting. He was reveling in how great the snow was for his shit pile, so I’m dedicating this post to him.
In case you’ve been living in a void:
Composting is an important way to recycle — both at home and at work, where organic material is used and waste is created. It is estimated that about 50 percent of the total waste stream could be composted! Composting not only helps to reduce the amount of waste going to landfills, it produces a valuable soil amendment which can improve the texture and fertility of the soil.
Unfortunately, I live in a condo and don’t have a backyard for a compost heap, so I’ll at least do a small part and not flush my toilet this week. Maybe I can grow some mushrooms.

Hmm, either nothing is happening this week or everyone else has also taken to playing Warcraft, instead of posting new stuff (like me). If it’s the latter, let’s quest together! I’m looking for a dwarf with a silk gown and bunny ears. In real life too.

Held annually on April 28, the National Day of Mourning commemorates workers whose lives have been lost or injured in the workplace. Events are being held across Canada under the theme “Review. Revitalize. Refresh.”
In 2007, 1,055 workplace deaths were recorded in Canada -- up from 976 the previous year. This represents almost 3 (2.89) deaths every single day. Another 972,407 were injured or become ill.
Thankfully, I work in a relatively safe job, sitting all day behind a computer. That is, unless a chair explodes up my ass. But since I don’t know the true risk of on-the-job accidents, this video will suffice:
If that didn’t scare you, you might also want to take a look at Prevent-It.ca’s workplace safety commercials.

Two fashion shows in two weeks! Lethbridge Fashion Week’s bi-annual fashion show is this Friday, and there’s 99% chance you’ll see me there. And also probably the Kabuki Guns Burlesque show at Henotic. I’ll be wearing my pasties.
If I may also suggest, check out the Amelia Earhart, Glencoulee and Classified shows. All 3 are a different genre, so take your pick!

One of our favourite Lethbridge bands, Endangered Ape, are releasing their second EP “Ape Shall Not Kill Ape” tonight at Henotic. Adam writes:
My beloveds,
It has been many moons since Endangered Ape first started playing tunes here in Lethbridge to the fine members of the community and you have consistently blessed us with coming out, losing your shit, rocking out, and overall, being incredibly good-looking. Every night has been a frickin’ party, and it’s awesome that you fine people have checked us out.

When was the last time you stepped inside a record store? I pretty much download all my music now though pirating iTunes, but don’t mind buying an occasional CD, especially if it’s to support an indie band I really like.
Today, local independent music store Blueprint Entertainment is holding it’s second annual Record Store Day.
April 18th, 2009 will mark the second annual Record Store Day and will be celebrated by hundreds of independently owned record stores around the globe. Record Store Day is a time for stores, musicians, and aficionados alike to come together to celebrate the art of music.
The day also features performances by Leeroy Stagger, Endangered Ape, The Darby & Joan Club and DJ Daemon, so stop by and have a listen.

So I got word from Paul Lawton that The Myelin Sheaths are also playing this Friday at Henotic. Since I’m pretty much in love with everyone from that band (except Joel because he’s a ginger), I asked Paul to give me the low down on this “unique girl-group on acid sound.”

And what a week it will be! Though here are tons of things happening, I’m most excited for Mother Mother & Said the Whale this Thursday at Henotic! Spring finally has sprung…too bad I have to return the bunny costume today.
