Guest post: Some of my favourite places in Lethbridge

Lethbian Lover’s note: Here’s a guest entry from one of my friends, Damian Warszawski, who recently blogged about his view on Lethbridge and has graciously allowed me to re-post it here!

Drinks & Laughs. Scenery & Family
Many people think that Lethbridge is a dreary windy hole of a town, I tend to agree but there is places that make this town worth wild. Living here most of my life I am ashamed to say I don’t know this town as well as I should, but it is getting easier by reading blogs from my cousin and my brothers friend. Hopefully this year I can get out more and experience what this town has to offer, whether it’s just going for a walk or seeing a show at a local bar. For now I will share with you two of my favourite places to relax, enjoy some drinks and love life.

A model idiot

David Guenther, a fellow Lethbian and one half of Rowan Jane Photography, asked me last week to model for him. At first I was like, “LOL! Me…a model? For realz?” but David confessed that he’s a fan of the blog and thought that I would be a nice addition to their “Lethbridge” portfolio.

So who am I to turn down one of my fans? I needed new photos for my Plenty of Fish profile anyways. Check out all of the dashing photos of me on their blog. Great work, thanks David!

Art is the proper task of life

So, I have ridiculously talented and good-looking friends who are art geeks. Julia M. is one of those, and she’s got some of her work up in the University of Lethbridge’s art gallery as part of a student exhibition.

The Annual Curated Student Exhibition provides a showcase of excellent work by Art Studio majors in that year and gives the students a valuable achievement to list on their résumés.

Her work, “Shapes,” for the exhibition “The Object of My Affection Attention” runs until April 9 in the uleth art gallery. You can also see more of Julia’s work on her blog.

DJ Sleepy Head keeps me awake at night

While at the fashion show last Friday, I discovered a cool Lethbridge DJ who goes by the moniker of Sleepy Head. Evangelos Lambrinoudis is his real name and he spins electro-experimental beats, or something like that. Just listen:

He also has a good mustache.

Check out his website, Midnight Social or listen to more music on MySpace. There’s also a Facebook page.

A Lethbridgian View

LL Cool J once said, rapped or tweeted, “There are two ways of spreading light; to be the candle, or the mirror that reflects it.”

It’s kinda cool when I stumble across blogs from fellow Lethbians here and there, like Daily Photo Dose and Lethbian Antics (long retired). Today, I found that my friend Martin‘s cousin has followed my lead and started her own blog called “A Lethbridgian View.” Although she spelled Lethbian completely wrong, this blog is another unique take on Lethbridge.

Maybe this whole “turning your back to the wind” thing is starting to take off?

Daily Photo Dose

Lethbridge is full of great photographers (myself not included) and Jaime Vedres is definitely one of my favourites. Recently, he started a blog called “Daily Photo Dose” that chronicles the photos he takes day-to-day, along the way. I caught up with him to learn more about his project, as well as to share some of the amazing photos. Interview and a few photos after the jump!

Lethbridge lonely hearts

Today is Valentine’s Day, and congratulations to those who find themselves in the warm embrace of another, enjoying roses, cinnamon hearts, chocolates, champagne, perfume and lingerie. You make me sick. This post isn’t for you!

It was some guy named Stendhal who said, “Very small degree of hope is sufficient to cause the birth of love.” And for those of you who haven’t completely given up yet, I have compiled a list of ways to find yourself a date, or at least a one-night stand.

Featured Artist: Martin Warszawski

I’ve recently been asked, “What aspect of Lethbridge stands out for you the most?” And, besides the stupid ridiculous amount of trucks that plague this city, I would have to say it’s the amount of talented people I have met along the way (Lethbridge is also full of them).

In particular, I am proud to feature an amazing artist, and one of my best friends, Martin Warszawski. Since back in the day, he and I were creative influences upon one another, drawing comics, recording puppet shows and a Shakespeare video assignment featuring a dead gopher (we found it like that).

Team Jetpack 104 rockets off

Recently, I had the opportunity to contribute a guest strip for Zac Erickson‘s web comic, Team Jetpack 104. I thought it’d be cool to interview Zac and let Lethbridge in on his work. And since we’re both geeks, we did it using Google Wave (verdict: cool).

Interview is after the jump. Enjoy!
