Tonight in Lethbridge

Cripes! I was definitely going to post this much earlier, but my Netscape was down. I called Shaw and they said they needed to reboot the Internet because the tubes got clogged earlier today. For a second, I was worried that my MAC got the Conficker virus. Phew.

For those of you who haven’t made plans already, check out one of these shows.

Adaline hits the National Post

adalineHere’s an update to my post earlier this week:

It seems that Vancouver musician Adaline is winning more than just the heart Robert Pattinson, but rather fans from across the world. Beyond the +30,000 plays on her MySpace page, she is now featured in CHARTattack, the Vancouver Sun and even the National Post.

“What is most touching is that many of you have said that even though you came across my website because of my chance meeting with Robert, that many of you are staying because of my music. This is why I make music — so I can share it with you. So thank you for the kind words — for telling me which songs are speaking to you — for passing on my website to your friends and family. I am so grateful.” – Adaline

As a token of her appreciation she is also offering a free MP3 download of her hit single, “Whiter/Straighter.”

For those who don’t have a clue, Robert Pattinson played Edward Cullen in Twilight and Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter. And he sparkles in the sun.

Keep up the great momentum, Adaline!

Cheaper than Blockbuster

ULFCKarla informed me that the ULFC is holding a 12-hour film marathon this Saturday. The goal of the marathon is to raise enough funds to grow their film library, so that members have access to all previously screened films.

We are asking participants to get themselves pledged to watch films! Asking family, friends or colleges to pledge you for the Film Marathon is all that we ask. We are giving away some great prizes for those who get the most pledges and who last the longest (it is 12 hours of film watching!). Prizes include: Gift Certificates from Backstreet (west), B.O.B Headquarters Swag, Infamous Swag, Gift Certificates from the Pita Pit, etc.

I guess that means I’ll need to break out the adult diapers and Cheetos, since I fully intend to win those gift certificates. You don’t believe me? Yeah, I suppose I wear them on a regular basis anyway, which reminds me I need a change. Mom!

Tonight in Lethbridge – Friday, at long last

Last night, I welcomed fellow geeks Windy and Jeddy to Lethbridge. As representative of the Lethbridge Welcoming Committee, I pulled out all the stops. They even paid for the beer. That’s right, they bought ME beer, because that’s how we roll in Lethbridge. Like Wimp Lo said, “I am more bloody, therefore I win.”

That was a lot of beer, though. But I sure taught the pavement a lesson! Here’s what’s going down tonight.

Curse you, Old Man Winter!

Well, that settles it. Of all days to bundle up because of the cold weather, it has to be on National Cleavage Day. Granted, it’s not really a Canadian holiday…not yet, at least. Starting small, I’m about to change all that. I’ve already caught a few glances of my man cleavage being observed and am feeling very empowered.

According to Samantha Paterson, the brand manager for Wonderbra, the National Cleavage Day started according to a design to solemnize women’s independence and power in all facets of life, from their careers to their relationships to their own destiny.

Paterson explained, “It gives women a chance to be beautiful and glow in the furtive, yet appreciative, glances their cleavage evokes from men. It gives men a legitimate reason to stare at boobs”.

Last Lecture now online

Last LectureLast week, Jenn blogged about ULSU’s “Last Lecture” speaker event, which was held on March 25th. For those of us who missed it, or weren’t allowed on campus because they alledgedly flashed a couple of female students (I swear it was my doppelganger), the presentation is now available online.

Adaline’s brush with “Edward Cullen”

Adaline and RobertVancouver musician Shawna Beesley (a.k.a. adaline) is reportedly romantically-linked to Robert Pattinson after meeting at a Juno Afterparty at Richards on Richards, a popular music venue in Vancouver.

“I’m just happy to have this moment with you.”

At that point, he pulled me into an warm embrace…

Okay, maybe I skewed that just a little, though they did rub shoulders together!

But how does any of this relate to Lethbridge? Well, Shawna happens to a friend of a friend whom I briefly met some time ago. She’s a wonderfully warm and talented person, who recently played at The Slice earlier this month. It saddened me to have missed that show, but at least I have her music to listen to.

Now if you’d excuse me, I’m off to roll myself in diamond dust and watch Twilight all over again. Oh Edward, you’re so mysteriously beautiful.

60 minutes to save the world

Tonight, I’ll be unplugging the extension cord that runs from my van to my neighbour’s outdoor socket. I’m doing my part in saving energy. That, and they cut off power to the outlet.

8:30PM is Earth Hour. It’s an hour where people all across the world turn off their lights/appliances to “Vote Earth” and do their part in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

Some businesses in the community will also be taking part, such as Edit Shoppe downtown. Joanne is even offering her customers a chance to win between 10 – 30% off their purchase today for mentioning what time Earth hour runs from!

I encourage anyone who can to switch off for 60 minutes and Vote Earth. Take a picture, record a video, write a blog post or update your Twitter status (tag posts with “earthhour” and/or “voteearth”). The goal this year is to reach 1 billion people taking part and recording their vote.
